August 2017

Another activity full month with unpacking and adjusting to our new routine. Tim started the month up in San Jose, wondering if he was going to get a job offer down in San Diego. Now at the end of the month he’s finishing up his last week on-site at KT so he can start his new job at GA starting Sept 5. So the changes keep coming.  In the middle of the month we had a trip with the Powers clan up in the eastern Sierras at June Lake.

Cordelia is doing well and continuing to learn lots and develop emotionally too. She is enjoying the new house and enjoys getting to see the Powers relatives more. She also really enjoys having Max around to play with. She does a very good job taking care of Max, making sure he gets fed and let out. She had a great time in the mountains and really enjoyed playing with her cousin. She also did pretty well on a long 3.5 mile hike we took. To finish the month she started pre-school for the Fall. Hopefully this will be a good chance for her to make new friends. Corrie is starting to handle her emotions better and use her nice voice rather than screaming and yelling when things don’t go her way. It’s been a nice change over that past week.

Anthony is a walking, talking boy, always ready for action. He loves following Corrie around and repeating whatever she does. He’s getting better at listening but we’re still working with him to obey. Whenever he doesn’t like the way things are going he lets out a very loud high pitched screech, which is not appreciated. It’s certainly effective for getting attention, but we’d prefer other methods of communication. Tony did a great job in the mountains and on the drive too. It was a long 7 hr drive but he’s pretty easy to entertain, sometimes he just likes to sit. One conversation went like this: quotAnthony you want a book?quot quotNoquot, quotYou want a car?quot quotNoquot, quotYou want to sit there and be grumpy?quot quotYesquot. Well OK then. He upgraded himself to a booster seat during the month and is doing pretty well. Getting him to eat is still a challenge and his list of quotapprovedquot foods is very limited. His go-to meal is PBampJ, so he’s been eating a lot of that. We’re hoping to get some playmates for him during this next month.

Both Corrie and Tony like our nanny, Emilia. She’s been with us about 6 weeks now and the kids are having a lot of fun with her. While Grandparents Powers have been out on their backpacking trip for the 2nd half of August, Emilia has been taking on the full time nanny role and we are very appreciative to have her.

Alicia is starting to get a feel for things at work and contribute to her tasks. The last day of the month she was actually able to help a colleague fix an issue she had been looking into. It’s always gratifying to feel like a contributing member of the team. As she continues to show capability in learning the tools her boss is giving her more responsibilities and tasks. Her boss has been really great about schedule flexibility, taking time off for the family vacation and an open house for Cordelia’s preschool. The head of the department is also evaluating Alicia’s management skills by giving her a student project to lead for the upcoming ’17-18 school year. Outside of work, Alicia has been trying to keep up with all the unpacking and spending time with the family. There are a lot of responsibilities and tasks, especially with things in disarray at the beginning of the month it was hard to find and keep track of everything. But things are starting to settle into place.

Tim has had an eventful month with work. He started the month by flying down for a 2nd on-site interview at GA where he had to present on a technical topic. Then back up to San Jose for a week, sleeping at a friend’s house, waiting to hear if he was getting the job. Tim joined us in June lake for our family vacation and came back to Carlsbad for 12 days before flying back to San Jose to finish his last week at KT. Tim also had the sad task of selling his Subaru, as we prepare to purchase our first mini-van. Tim had a great time with the family and looks forwarding to being together permanently starting in Sept.

Most of the boxes are unpacked and the house is starting to look lived in – just don’t look in the closets! Pictures are hung and furniture in place, it’s a starting to get a quothome-yquot feel. Tim did a lot of the box unpacking while he was down and we finally squeezed the third car into the garage. We had a small house warming party while Tim was down and had a great time re-connecting with some of our San Diego friends.

During this time of transition, God’s hand and timing has been very evident. Seeing how God is moving and orchestrating together everything in his timing, it’s a strong reminder to us that God is in control and he is capable of performing what he wants to accomplish. It is such a reassuring thing and really provides a great peace to rest in the hands of our loving Father.

Pray as we enter this next month we start feeling what our new “normal” is going to be. We’re trying to decide on our church and how much to get involved. It would be great to meet some more families and find kids to play with and adults we can connect with. Thank you all for your love, prayers, and support.
