Well, big news this month! After careful consideration, we decided to move closer to work. We started browsing for houses and two weeks later got an offer accepted for a house in Poway, CA. The house is less than 15 min from where Tim amp Alicia work, so once we get relocated the long commutes will be a thing of the past. This does mean that we have yet another transition coming up, but this should be the last move for the foreseeable future. We are looking forward to settling in and putting down roots.
We tried to be active this month, went to an Oktoberfest event, small hike, and lots of Legoland trips for the kids. We also celebrated Sukkot (festival of booths). Unfortunately, we all had a minor bout with the plague this month as well. For about two weeks everyone felt pretty miserable but we are finally recovering and healthy. Hopefully we won’t catch anything in November! We were able to host a family we know from San Jose the last weekend of October. It was nice to visit with them and catch up on how things are going back up North.
Cordelia is doing well. She continues to be precocious and charming (while still asserting herself), but she is learning to discuss her thoughts and feelings, rather than reacting more emotionally. Some situations are still difficult for us to work with her through and we’ve been prayerful about how to more effectively discipline her as she is getting older. She’s still going to preschool and seems to be enjoying herself; she got her first quotreport cardquot this month (the teacher just told us her observations of Corrie’s personality; nothing that we weren’t already aware of). She talks about her friends that she makes there; she seems really enjoying herself. She also enjoys going to the library with our Nanny, Emilia, and Legoland with Grandma and Grandpa.
Anthony cut another molar this month, so now he is up to 6 big teeth. After he recovered from his version of the plague, his appetite came back with a vengeance; he is out-eating his sister some days, we think it must be a growth spurt. His language skills are developing at a very fast speed; he and Tim had an actual conversation this month discussing the charcoal grill, and he is alert and engaged in family conversations. He also really enjoys Emila, going to the library and parks. He also has a fun time playing with Corrie and wants to do whatever she’s doing.
Alicia continues to do well at work. She is growing into her program management role with the students at USD, getting more experience both at the budget/scheduling side of things as well as the managerial role (motivating her quotemployeesquot to perform). She has also made progress working on her other projects and is looking forward to branching out and contribute to more areas. One of her projects is coming up on some major deadlines, so she is supporting her co-workers as much as possible to make the milestones. Since Alicia has not been able to do any women’s bible studies she picked up a study to do on her own. She tried a MOPS group at the beginning of the month but it was not a good fit.
Tim is approaching his second month at the new job. So far he has been working mainly on the same project, pushing towards a prototype / proof of concept demonstration by the end of the year. He is enjoying working to build something new and being part of a close-knit team. He is also gearing up for another half marathon; training starts in November for the race in January.
November promises to be interesting as Tim amp Alicia step back into home ownership. The current owners are planning to stay as tenants for a month or so after escrow so we won’t be moving in right away. But there will be a lot of items to take care of and minor repairs that need to be scheduled. We will dealing with the relocation probably in late December or early January.
Please pray that we find good community in our new area. We are starting to look for a church in the Poway area. Please also pray for a smooth transition for childcare, as our current nanny is not likely to want to make the far commute that we are getting away from. Plus Grandma and Grandpa will not be around in the afternoons to help with the kids.
We feel incredibly blessed by God’s provision for us. With very little effort he placed this new house in our laps and continues to give us success at our jobs. We are grateful for your support and prayers.
