May 2018

Lots of changes and exciting things happening during this month. We started the month with getting a new play set for the backyard. Mimi, Papa, and Danny were generous to come out and help put it together. Alicia and Rebekah had a fun time catching up and watching the cousins play. Then we celebrated Mothersโ€™ day with Mom Powers on Saturday and a fun family day on Sunday. The next weekend we celebrated Timโ€™s birthday with a camping trip. Then we finished the month with a Memorial Weekend trip to visit Danny and Bekah and Cousins in Tucson. So seems like we had every weekend booked!

In the midst of all the visiting and hosting, the backyard remodel started the Monday after Mothersโ€™ Day. Good progress has been made, see the pictures for progress shots. The work should be finished end of the first week in June or mid-week of the second week. We still have some work in the backyard we will need to follow up on after the workers leave, since we took responsibility for most of the small planting.

Cordelia continues to enjoy preschool. She got invited and attended her first non-family birthday party for one of her preschool friends. Weโ€™re really happy that sheโ€™s starting to make friends. Sheโ€™s also learning a lot, writing all her letters. Tim has been teaching her to read and sheโ€™s making amazing progress on that too. She did a great job in AWANA and had a fun time being a Cubbie. It was pretty amazing to see all the verses she was able to memorize.

Anthony continues to make good learning progress too. In addition to playing with his cars and trains heโ€™s also learned how to do puzzles and enjoys doing the small wood puzzle we have. He is enjoying preschool more and more and seems very well adjusted now. We finished off the month by potty training him. Heโ€™s been doing a great job with that. It took him the first morning to figure out what he was supposed to do but after that he picked it up really quick. Weโ€™re on day four of training now and having minimal accidents. He always tries to get to the bathroom and sometimes just gets there a little late.

Alicia finished her student mentoring this month. While the project was not as successful as desired, Alicia had a lot of good learning and it was a good experience with some exposure to upper management. Now Alicia enters her last month before going out for maternity leave after 4th July. So sheโ€™s trying to find new tasks to complete without starting a whole new project since thereโ€™s only about 5-6 weeks left before she goes out for 3 months. Alicia is still trying to find a good balance between work and family life.

Tim has been enjoying his new smoker we bought and he assembled at the beginning of the month. This month we have been enjoying lots of delicious smoked meats. Tim’s work has settled into a slow steady flow of work, no big work trips or crazy deadlines. Tim’s birthday was a little low on festivities but we made the most of the camping trip. The kids seem a little too young so it was a whirlwind trip.

We’re also trying to get more engaged with the church we’ve been attending. Tim helped out with AWANA and is in the rotation for playing guitar on Sundays. We’ve also been attending the Thursday night study and trying to form some closer connections.

In June, we’re getting our new puppy and adjusting to life with a dog. The landscape work will also be completed and we’ll finish up our part of the landscaping. June is also our final month to make preparations for the new baby addition in July.
