May 2020

Some big changes this month. At the end of the first week our Au Pair Julieta left us. Thankfully Tim was able to adjust his work to go semi-part time and Grandparents Powers came over to help for the rest of the month. Cordelia and Anthony were able to go back to school starting middle of the month. We also celebrated Timโ€™s birthday. At the end of the month the Russin clan came over from Tuscon for a weekend visit.

Cordelia has been handling the changes fairly well. It was very hard for her seeing Julieta leave. She was excited for school to start but also nervous the first day. She continues to enjoy her schooling both at home and now back at school. Corrie also continues practicing her piano. She also completed AWANA for the school year and we are very proud of how well she did. Cordelia had a fun visit with her cousins at the end of the month. She continues to be a loving girl who wants to help.

Anthony is not as expressive as Cordelia but he went through the same emotions, sad saying bye to Julieta and nervous going back to school. He has been doing a great job with his school both at home and back at school. Heโ€™s doing some reading now and also working on his numbers. He got his first big boy lego set with dinosaurs and has been having a great time with that. He also enjoyed spending time with his cousins.

Lydia continues her development. Sheโ€™s doing a lot of talking now and is able to have simple one sentence conversations. Sheโ€™s also growing big too. At the end of the month she weighed in at 30 pounds and sheโ€™s pretty tall too. Overall sheโ€™s pretty easy going but she also knows how to speak her mind. She has a tenancy to want to take her siblingโ€™s toys and other items, so we have to make sure weโ€™re keeping her in check.

Aliciaโ€™s work continues to be active with her main project. She has been able to keep up with her deadlines and make progress. She also got nominated for a mentor-mentee program where she can be mentored by a senior engineer to expand her skills. At home things have been in adjustment as we cleaned out from Julieta and are making a fresh start to things. It has been fun spending time as a family going on hikes to the local water way and biking around the neighborhood. Alicia also completed her duties as Sparks director at the very end of the month. The club closed out the year by having a drive thru grab-and-go event.

Timโ€™s now fully in his new group at work. Things were slow and not going so well at the beginning of the month but it has really picked up the last three weeks. He did some night testing both at work and out in Julian. Heโ€™s been doing more interesting things, working on white papers and other research. Fortunately Timโ€™s management and assignments allowed him the ability to go semi-part time while we are in our childcare transition period. At home Tim has been keeping up with the garden and yard. Some of the plants are surviving, though weโ€™re not seeing the big return like last year. Tim and Corrie went on a daddy-daughter bike ride. Tim and Anthony had daddy-son time building a lego set. Tim also got back into a work out routine towards the end of the month.

We are very thankful to have our family support during this month of changes. We continue to watch our online church though we havenโ€™t been involved in the small group. We are thinking that June will remain mostly the same as how we finished May for our childcare. We are thankful for Godโ€™s faithfulness and peace during these times with so many things in the world around us being uncertain and fear surrounding our culture
