June 2020

This month Cordelia and Anthony continued back at school. Grandparents Powers have been coming to watch the kids and Aunt Kelly too. We have been able to settle back into a routine that allows us to have a good work-family balance. The weather has been nice this month. Slightly warming up, allowing for some pool days but not so hot to be unpleasant for family walks. In the middle of the month Cordelia was the flower girl in Aunt Kellyโ€™s wedding. We also celebrated Fatherโ€™s day.

Cordelia is really enjoying being back at schooling. She continues to have fun learning and getting to spend time with her friends. Kids activities started back up mid-June, Corrie returned to swim class and gymnastics. She is very excited to be back doing both of those. She continues to grow as a thoughtful and caring girl. Itโ€™s nice seeing her play with the younger kids and being gentle with them. But she also knows how to have fun with some older kids we visit with.

Anthony has been doing a great job with his school. Heโ€™s able to reading basic stories now and heโ€™s also working on his numbers. He really enjoys playing with his dinosaurs, Paw Patrols and cars. Anthony also returned to swim class and is regaining some confidence. Unfortunately the gymnastics for his age group did not restart. Overall heโ€™s doing well. Being surrounded by a lot of girls he certainly knows how to play well with them but he also likes to play with the boys.

Lydia is a walking, talking, opinionated toddler. Sheโ€™ll be turning 2 yrs the middle of next month. She has been more temperamental this month. Weโ€™re hoping itโ€™s due to teething and not a long term change. While she does get mad when things donโ€™t go her way, she is pretty quick to change and accept correction. She decided to explore biting this month, so weโ€™re trying to put a quick stop to that! With two older siblings sheโ€™s certainly doing her best to keep up with them and is starting to join in with them, playing together.

Alicia is expanding her skills at work, trying to tackle technical challenges. Overall she enjoys her job, though sometimes it can be stressful when things are working how sheโ€™d like. Alicia did go in to the office a few times this month to take care of in-lab things. At home sheโ€™s enjoyed being able to work next to Tim and see the kids during the day. Family time has been filled with family walks around the neighborhood. Alicia has enjoyed the opportunity to connect with our neighbor more and also get some playdates in.

Tim was able to keep his work up while helping watch the kids and is back to full-time by the end of the month. His work seems to come in waves with sort term urgent tasks followed by periods of almost no work. Heโ€™s had a couple of interesting mini-projects that have helped him learn some new things, which is always a nice benefit. At the end of the month, he got materials to build a new guitar, so he is looking forward to some detailed woodworking over the next few months.

Weโ€™re enjoying the summer weather and long days to play in the evenings. Weโ€™ll be celebrating 4th of July with the Powers clan. Weโ€™ll also be getting our master bathroom remodeled next month, which weโ€™re very excited to see completed. Weโ€™re still doing church online but it has been working out well.
