June 2024

Summer is here! We started June with end of school year presentations, celebrations, and awards ceremonies. Lydia graduated from Kindergarten. We celebrated Fatherโ€™s day by going to the county fair. Then summer activities began. Things also heated up the last week of the month and we have the blow-up pool out for the summer. We had a family over who go to our school. The kids had a great time playing and we really enjoyed the company. Hopefully we will be able to continue making friendships with this family and other like-minded families. We also hosted an AWANA directors hangout night at the end of the month and hope to build those relationships too.

Cordelia completed the school year with a historical figure presentation and yearly testing. Cordelia worked hard in her ice-skating Academy Prep class and leveled up to Academy 1. She also took a week long morning skate camp which gave her some enthusiasm for skating and broadened her view of skills she can learn. Sheโ€™s preparation for her upcoming competitions over the summer. Cordelia also continues in her piano lessons and participated in the yearly summer recital. She is doing a half-day volleyball camp for the last week of June and has really enjoyed that.

Anthony completed the school year with a historical figure presentation and yearly testing. Anthony continues working hard in his Skills 3 soccer class. The new session began for the summer and we switched him to a different time slot so that heโ€™s with a coach he really likes. He finished his last game of the current soccer league at the beginning of June and then started in a different league at the end of June. The new league is with older kids and also on a bigger field, 7 vs 7 with a designated goalie. It will take him a bit of time to transition to the larger field and playing with bigger kids. Anthony is going to graduate from swim class at the end of June. Heโ€™s leveled out of the regular program and is ready for a summer of water fun. Anthony also continues in her piano lessons and participated in the yearly summer recital. Anthony started off his summer camps with Archery and then laser tag. He did very good in Archery and the coach complemented us on his abilities. He seems to be having fun in the laser tag camp too.

Lydia is officially graduated from Kindergarten. Sheโ€™s still going to be attending school for the summer session so itโ€™s not a big transition yet. Lydia had her first soccer class and seemed to enjoy it a lot. In swimming Lydia is improving in her breast stroke and working on putting the legs and arm pieces together. Lydia also continues in her piano lessons and participated in the yearly summer recital. Lydia enjoyed her camp grandma and grandpa week. She went to the zoo and Legoland. She had a lot of fun swimming in various pools and doing fun activities. Sheโ€™s looking forward to celebrating her 6th birthday next month.

Natalie has a lot of fun at school and after a break week, sheโ€™s back at school for the summer session. She is continuing to improve in her potty training and rarely has accidents anymore. Bedtime still results in lots of getting out of bed. Lydia and Natalie are sharing a queen bed and bedtime continues to be active with sleep coming late. Natalie missed her sleeping buddy when Lydia was gone for her week and was happy to have Lydia back. Natalie is continuing to improve in her swimming and can put two or three swimming motions together before rolling onto her back.

Aliciaโ€™s work has been active but manageable. She pushed to do a lot of in-person work at the beginning of the month knowing sheโ€™d be at home more for the summer schedule. While things are progressing a bit slower than sheโ€™d like, all her projects are moving in the right direction. At the end of the month she was able to talk to one of her work acquaintances about Jesus. It took some prayerful will power for her to initiate the conversation but it was well received and an encouraging conversation. The seed was planted and perhaps it will lead to further conversations and hopefully a changed life. Family demands picked up quite a bit this month. With the end of year festivities, the weekends filled up. With summer camps, Alicia has making sure the kids get to their activities. She was able to watch Anthonyโ€™s archery camp two days. Aunt Kelly has started coming over to help with the summer schedule, which is very appreciated. The AWANA awards ceremony went well and now things are quiet and on break probably until the end of July.

Timโ€™s work is still putting stress on him and heโ€™s been told his program is critical to the future of the company (so no pressure). In the midst of the high pressure, heโ€™s been able to spend a little bit of time on a fun side project. He took a one night work trip to do testing. Tim has been keeping up with his workout routine and has continued to participate in soccer once or twice a week. It has been a fun addition to his workout routine. On the home front, Tim had the yard fairly well situated for summer. We also got a bigger trampoline for the kids, which took some hours of sweat to put together. We had a contractor come out to give us an estimate for the kitchen remodel. Weโ€™re still waiting for him to give us the actual pricing figures but weโ€™re hoping weโ€™ve found someone who will do the work we want done this summer. Tim has decided to join Alicia at AWANA next club year and serve as co-director for Sparks. He’ll be finishing up his serving on Sunday mornings in July.

While June was busy, a lot of fun things happened. Weโ€™ll be starting off July with a family vacation week with the Powers clan. Cordelia will be going to her first โ€œawayโ€ overnight camp. Lydia will be celebrating her 6th birthday. Cordelia will also be participating in her first ice skating competition. Lots of fun things planned for July!
